A Mysterious Morandi’s in the Matrix of Federico Fellini’s Vision.

Mauro Aprile Zanetti interprets the poetic presence of a still-life painting by top XX century Italian artist Giorgio Morandi in the world renowned and iconic film La Dolce Vita (1960) by Federico Fellini. MAZ pioneered the analysis of the appearance of Morandi’s image a full half-century after the release of the kaleidoscopic film about “the vanity of the vanity fair” and left unaddressed by the myriad of critical literature (“fellinology”) that followed.

With an interdisciplinary approach, MAZ further leads us into the enchanted filmmaking of “Il Maestro del Cinema”—as Martin Scorsese defined Fellini— to better unearth his ultimate art of creation, made up of a phantasmagoric series of cinematic inventions that reshaped our perception of Roma’s landscapes – portraying its people (Via Veneto café-society) as a microcosm of all humankind living an ever more slimy and rotten lifestyle (paparazzi’s ecosystem) driven by pure cynicism.

Mauro Aprile Zanetti — Sicilian born and raised until 19, he moved to Tuscany to complete his high education cum laude at the University of Pisa, writing his thesis on Theory and Technique of Film-making, Audiovisual Communication and New Media.

A multilingual polymath and published author, San Francisco-based since January 2013—after a ten-year period spent between Milan and NYC (his American cultural upbringing)—Assistant-secretary to poet, painter and publisher Lawrence Ferlinghetti, MAZ is a multimedia brand strategist (writing, film-making, public speaking) spanning from diplomatic and art institutions to startups and individuals. He has been writing for different Italy’s national key media having also specialized in the “Made in Italy brand” aka, internationalization of Italy: culture, lifestyle, design, fashion, and tech.

MAZ is currently an evangelist in the San Francisco Bay Area, bringing humanism into technology as per the greatest Renaissance legacy, creating the most appropriate storytelling. He is Chairman of Programs and Marketing of the non-profit The Leonardo da Vinci Society, San Francisco.
